Anti-surveillance protest just ended in an armed standoff outside a New Mexico sheriff’s office.

Jevon Martinez, 44, rolled up to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in a pickup truck stacked like a scrapyard with dismantled Flock Safety cameras and an American flag hanging off the back. Claiming he was “liberating” citizens from tyranny, Martinez documented his attempt to “return” the automated license plate readers directly to law enforcement.

The stunt occurred just after the local sheriff announced the county was canceling its Flock contracts over data privacy concerns. However, deputies didn’t view the massive delivery as a public service, they surrounded the truck with weapons drawn and arrested Martinez on charges of larceny and interference with communications.

Is this a bold stand for civil liberties or just outright vandalism? Let us know what you think in the comments.
