RC Plane Combat at Flight Fest 2026 — My FIRST EVER RC Airplane Dogfight in a Custom Piggy B-17 Bomber! Watch me build, paint, and fly an FT Tubby B-17 into an all-out foam RC combat battle against Horizon Hobby’s massive build.
This is my first time ever competing in RC combat — think demolition derby meets dogfighting, but with radio-controlled airplanes. At every Flight Fest, pilots bring bigger, crazier, and more creative combat builds to see who can be the last plane standing, and this year I finally decided to throw my hat in the ring.
I built an FTW-B17, modeled after the legendary WWII “Flying Fortress,” and gave it a wild twist — painting it hot pink to become the “Piggy Bomber” for the Year of the Pig. Along the way I got combat tips and strategy from other pilots at Flight Fest (low and slow, come in underneath, reinforce the nose, don’t crash — basically), raced against the clock to finish the paint job the night before combat, and then took to the skies for an intense multi-plane battle.
Highlights include my B-17 going head-to-head with Horizon Hobby’s massive combat build, planes dropping out of the sky left and right, and an ending you won’t want to miss.
